What it does
Ride dataSpeed, distance, time, averages, calories. Gradient comes from the phone's own air pressure sensor, so it reacts to a bridge in about two seconds.
Your sensorsBluetooth heart rate, cadence, speed and power meters. Pair once, they reconnect on their own next time.
RoutesDrop in a GPX file and follow the line on the map, with the distance to the finish in the corner.
MusicSpotify controls where your thumb already is: play, skip, volume. On Home and on the map.
Ride logEvery ride is kept on the phone. Send it to Strava automatically, or save the file and upload it yourself.

Put it on your home screen
BikeDog runs in the browser, but it does not have to look like a website. Two taps and it sits between your other apps, with its own icon and no address bar.
iPhone (Safari)
Open BikeDog in Safari. It has to be Safari, not Chrome.
Tap the share button at the bottom, the square with the arrow going up.
Scroll down and choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.
One thing to know. In the browser, BikeDog cannot talk to Bluetooth sensors, cannot read the air pressure sensor for gradient, and stops recording when your screen locks. That is the browser, not BikeDog. The installed app does all three. It is coming, and this page is where the link will appear.
Pairing a sensor
This works in the installed app. Heart rate straps, cadence and speed sensors and power meters all speak the same Bluetooth language, so anything standard should turn up.
Wake the sensor first. A heart rate strap needs to be damp and on your chest, a wheel or crank sensor needs a turn of the pedals.
Tap Connect at the bottom of the Home screen.
Everything BikeDog finds is ticked by default. Untick what is not yours, then confirm.
That is the last time you have to do this. Next ride they are picked up automatically, and if one drops out mid-ride BikeDog keeps quietly trying to get it back.
A sensor that stays missing is almost always still connected to something else. Close the other app, or switch the sensor off and on.
Riding as a pack
Pack is for the ride you agree on the evening before, in the group chat, and half of it goes wrong anyway.
One person sets the ride: day, time and meeting point.
They share the invite. Everyone gets a link.
Tapping that link opens a page that works in any browser, so people who do not have BikeDog can still say they are coming.
On the day itself, everyone sees who has actually turned up.
Nobody needs an account and nobody needs to install anything to answer an invite.
Privacy
BikeDog has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics. Nobody is counting you.
What stays on your phone
Your name, your settings, your remembered sensors and every ride you have recorded, including the track, live in your phone's own browser storage. They are not copied anywhere. Clear your browser data, or delete the app, and they are gone for good, so treat a ride you care about as something to export.
What leaves your phone, and only when you ask
Strava. If you connect your Strava account, a finished ride is sent to Strava when you stop. Nothing is sent before you connect, and you can disconnect at any time. What Strava then does with it is covered by Strava's own privacy policy.
Spotify. If you connect Spotify, BikeDog sends play, skip and volume commands to Spotify on your behalf. It never reads your listening history.
The map. While the map is on screen, your phone asks OpenStreetMap's servers for the map tiles around you. That tells them roughly where you are looking, the same as any map on any website.
Pack. If you use Pack, the day, time and meeting point of the ride and the first names of the people coming are stored on BikeDog's own small server so the others can see them. No positions, no tracking, and it is deleted after the ride.
Where you are
Your position comes from the phone's own GPS and is used to work out speed, distance and where you are on the map. The track is recorded on the phone. It leaves the phone only if you upload the ride to Strava or save the file and send it somewhere yourself.
